Best Gifts For University Students

Buying gifts for students is never easy, some spend more time in the local pub than they do in the library, but not to worry, we’ve rounded up some subject specific gifts to help them with their studies and some little reminders to have a little fun and not take everyday too seriously.

Law Student – Gavel

Law students face one of the toughest courses you can study, so why not get the next Ruth Bader Ginsberg their very own gavel. A gavel is the small wooden hammer a judge uses to gain order in court, drawing attention to what they say and usually silencing the room.

Be wary though, giving a law student one of these may result in you being sentenced to make a brew when you’re halfway through and episode of Judge Rinder.

Chemistry Student – Benzene Stamp

In Chemistry, sketching some of the elements, compounds and mixtures requires a very steady hand and a whole lot of patience. However, there is one gift that can help solve this problem.

A benzene stamp is a great way to create those perfect hexagons, as benzene is the parent compound of a large family of organic compounds known as the aromatic compounds. Having a preset stamp puts visual consistency in a chemistry students work and gives them more time to work on the calculations. An ideal solution and a thoughtful gift.

Maths Student – Pi(e)

Coming up on March 14th (since 3,1 and 4 are the first digits of the constant) is Pi Day, a celebration for the infinite number. You can celebrate by, you guessed it, eating pie. For any avid mathematicians, a scrumptious gift would be finding a bakery to personalise a pi themed pie’ for them.

So even when they’re eating, they’re crunching numbers. We’ll see ourselves out.

English Student – Old Books Candle

Studying English goes hand in hand with reading, which is proven to improve your vocabulary, focus, empathy and memory. So if you know a bookworm, who chooses to explore the world behind the ink rather than go to the house party down the road, an old books scented candle would be a fitting present.

You can find these candles on sites like Amazon for around £20, expect notes of leather, old paper and cedar wood.

Medical Student – Sleep Mask

Medical students often get placements in clinics and hospitals to experience the reality of working in the medical industry. Even as a trainee nurse or doctor, it shows you just how long 24 hours can be. The irregular shift patterns, fluctuating from early to late makes any sleep they can grab a must. Add that to high-intensity day-to-day responsibilities and it can wear anyone down.

Providing a medical student with a sleep mask is a great way of showing them you care for their wellbeing and needs, as well as enabling them to block out any distractions and get some deserved shut eye.

Computer Science Student – Blue Light Glasses

Computer science students can spend over 9 hours a day on digital devices, or sometimes even more when the assignment deadline is approaching. Bear in mind, programming software is no easy task; it takes thorough and accurate coding or the functionality suffers along with their grades.

Blue light from phone or computer screens is also very harmful to the eyes, being linked to problems like blurry vision, eyestrain and more serious ones such as macular degeneration. Blue light glasses could be just what they need, they can help cope with strain, lower the chance of vision-related issues and mean they can go longer on the screen instead of taking a break.
