WITHINGTON HIGHLIGHTS
Withington is chill, friendly, and full of character. Tucked into South Manchester, it’s a small but lively spot where you’ll find a mix of cosy cafes, indie restaurants, and local shops that actually have personality. The pubs are laid back, and the community feel is strong. For students, it’s the kind of place that quickly starts to feel like home.
A lot is going on in Withington. One of the area's highlights is Ladybarn Park, an outdoor gym & play area with a skate park and both tennis and basketball courts. It's the perfect spot for a morning run or an evening picnic. Withington Baths & Leisure Centre is also a great place to stay active, and meet new people. The community fitness centre is in a restored Edwardian baths building. Here you'll find a pool, gym, sauna & two fitness studios.
BUSES
If you're heading to the University of Manchester or Manchester Met, getting there from Withington is super easy. It sits right on the Wilmslow Road bus corridor, aka one of the busiest bus routes in Europe. During term time on weekdays, there’s pretty much a bus every single minute between Withington and Piccadilly Gardens.
TRAMS
The Withington tram stop on Princess Road connects straight to the city centre. Trams come every 12 mins during peak hours, quick and easy.
WALKING & CYCLING
Super walkable area with cute upgrades like rain gardens and new seating spots. Cycling’s solid too, with bike lanes and bike sharing all around.
FOOD & DRINKS
Withington’s food and drink scene is thriving, with plenty of spots to explore. The Herbivorous Vegan serves up modern vegan comfort food, while Libertine, in a Grade II listed District Bank building, has an 'urban sanctuary' vibe. For something more relaxed, Shakedown offers American classics like burgers, fries, and shakes. Afterward, satisfy your sweet tooth at Biskits with luxury desserts, gelato, and pick-n-mix. Finish your night at The Red Lion or Orion, two popular pubs, and don’t miss The Dough Club for amazing pizza.
WITHINGTON WALLS
Tucked away in South Manchester, Withington Walls is turning everyday walls into a bold, ever-evolving street art gallery. This community led project brings the neighbourhood to life with work from some of the UK’s best artists, all while supporting powerful causes like mental health awareness. At its heart, it’s all about creativity, connection, and giving the community something meaningful to be part of.
MARCUS RASHFORD
The iconic Marcus Rashford mural is one of Withington’s most well-known artworks. Painted in 2020 by street artist Akse P19 as part of the Withington Walls project, the mural honours Rashford’s powerful activism during the COVID 19 pandemic, when he campaigned passionately against child food poverty across the UK. A true Manchester legend.
