Spooky season is finally upon us, and that only means one thing…
It’s Competition Time!
This year, we’re challenging you to a pumpkin carving contest. Each resident can submit an individual entry, therefore, you’ll be competing with housemates and other Luxome residents.
The prize is a £100 voucher to a supermarket of your choice. The winner will be chosen by our staff, and we’ll decide this based on skill, creativity and overall aesthetic.
To enter, post a picture of your pumpkin carving and tag us via @luxome_houses on Instagram or @luxome on TikTok. If your profile is private, that means that we cannot see the post. To avoid this, please follow us on socials and we’ll follow you back if you’re a resident.
We will announce the winner by the 31st of October 2024.

How To Guide
It’s time to get creative, supermarkets are selling pumpkins for about £2 so you won’t break the bank getting involved. To make your pumpkin last, it’s best to firstly choose a healthy pumpkin that is free of blemishes, give it a clean, then rub a little Vaseline over it.
Materials: Pumpkin, a carving knife, a spoon, a marker or a pencil, a candle or battery-powered light.
Choose Your Pumpkin: Select a pumpkin that's symmetrical and has a sturdy stem. A pumpkin with a flat bottom will be easier to stand.
Cut a Lid: Using a sharp carving knife, cut a circle around the top of the pumpkin, creating a lid. Make sure the lid is large enough for you to easily reach inside as you’ll need enough space to put a candle/battery.
Scoop Out the Seeds: Use a spoon to scoop out all the seeds and stringy bits from the inside of the pumpkin. This can get a tad messy so we’d advise wearing a pair of gloves and cheap clothes during.
Draw Your Design: Utilising a marker or pencil, attempt drawing your desired design on the pumpkin's surface. Simple designs are often easier to carve but nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Start Carving: Begin carving your design, using the knife to cut along the lines you've drawn. Try not to cut too deeply or too delicately and be careful whilst handling sharp objects as your safety is paramount.
Add Details: Once you've finished the main outlines, add the more minute details such as eyes, a nose or a mouth.
Light It Up: Place the candle or battery-powered light inside your pumpkin and replace the lid. Once all of this is done, your pumpkin should be ready for display/submission!
Submit Your Entry: Post a photo of your pumpkin carving online via TikTok and/or Instagram. Be sure to tag our social media handles in the post so we have visibility:

There is no entry fee and no purchase necessary to enter this competition.
By entering this competition, an entrant is indicating his/her agreement to be bound by these terms and conditions.
Closing date for entry will be 30th October 2024. After this date no further entries to the competition will be permitted.
No responsibility can be accepted for entries not received for whatever reason.
